Statistics Canada states 55% of adult women and 43% of adult men report short sleep duration and poor-quality sleep. Lack of sleep is a contributor to several health issues, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, and diabetes. Many people resort to using sleeping pills, even when we know that they can be habit forming, have side effects, and become less effective over time. Sleeping pills are not the easy answer to insomnia. There are various techniques and skills that can be learned to enhance sleep quality, such as cognitive behavior therapy.
