Understanding BPPV

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is a common form of vertigo that causes a spinning sensation or a feeling of the room moving, typically when the body is at rest. It is characterized by brief episodes of dizziness, ranging from mild to severe, triggered by head movements such as tilting, tipping, or changing positions. BPPV occurs when tiny crystals in the inner ear’s vestibular labyrinth become dislodged, disrupting balance. A trained physiotherapist can diagnose and treat BPPV with effective maneuvers, often resolving symptoms in 2-3 visits. Without treatment, recovery may take weeks or months.
