March is Nutrition month, and Saskatoon Services for Seniors is excited to join in the celebration of healthy eating habits for seniors in our community!
As we age, maintaining a nutritious diet becomes increasingly important for overall health and well-being. That’s why we’re dedicated to providing seniors with the support they need to lead healthier lifestyles.
Throughout Nutrition month, let’s explore the benefits of a balanced diet, share practical tips for meal planning and preparation, and debunk common myths about aging and nutrition.
But what’s a celebration without delicious food? To kick off Nutrition Month, we’re excited to share a couple of mouth-watering recipes that are nutritious and easy to prepare:
Grilled Salmon with Roasted Vegetables
- 4 Salmon Fillets ( any fish will do)
- 2 cups vegetables of choice (zucchini, tomatoes, cooked peas, carrots)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (canola or vegetable will do)
- 2 cloves of garlic minced
- 1 teaspoon dried herbs (parsley, thyme, rosemary)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Lemon wedges for serving
In a bowl toss the mixed vegetables with oil, garlic, herbs, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
Place fish fillets and seasoned vegetables in a cooking pan in the oven at 350ºF and cook until the fish flakes easily with a fork. Garnish with lemon wedges for a burst of citrus flavour.
This nutritious and delicious recipe is packed with omega-3 fatty acids, protein, and a variety of vitamins and minerals to support optimal health and vitality. Plus, it’s quick and easy to prepare, making it a perfect meal for busy seniors.
