Resolve to Prevent Falls

Slippery floors, poor lighting, loose rugs, electrical cords and clutter – all can be addressed proactively to prevent dangerous situations. Visit each room in your home. Look at the space objectively and ask, “Is this safe? Are there objects or items that present a risk?” If so, think about ways to create a safer home like to wear non slip socks or slippers, use night lights in dark hallways, remove throw rugs, keep electrical cords safely hidden behind furniture and organize your projects so they are off the floor and out of walkways.

Did you know 1 in 5 Canadians have or have had a toenail fungus infection and 2/3 are embarrassed by this condition? The Sleep/Pain Connection

Struggling to sleep at night is frustrating and can lead to health problems. Like a spider web, with its main branches and sub links, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views sleep and pain as having an interwoven relationship. When you experience ongoing disordered sleep patterns it can lead to painful conditions, whether they be physical and/or mental in nature. When you are dealing with painful conditions like back pain, headaches, arthritis, sciatica, fibromyalgia, and even depression it almost always affects your quality of sleep. In addition to addressing pain, acupuncture has been shown to improve sleep and help treat insomnia.

Whether you or your loved one has been newly diagnosed, or have had hypertension for years, consider your Central Alberta Co-op Pharmacist a helpful resource. High blood pressure can be problematic, but it can be kept under control with lifestyle changes and proper treatment. Losing weight, eating a healthy high-fibre, low-sodium diet, exercising, quitting smoking and limiting alcohol consumption can be effective measures. Ask your pharmacist to develop a blood pressure plan specific to your lifestyle and needs. They can educate you about blood pressure medication and discuss interactions with other medications you may take.

Make Your Resolutions Stick

Have you ever wondered why our New Year’s resolutions are often forgotten soon after they are made? We say that we desire change, then our non-serving beliefs, limit us along with our self-sabotaging behaviours keep us stuck in our comfort zones. Through Emotional Wellness and Tapping, we look for and release the emotional attachments, non-serving beliefs, and the root causes. What made us start smoking in the first place? What makes us reach for sweets and carbs? What makes us not start the class, heal the relationship, or save more money? Together, let’s make those resolutions stick.
