An Evening Beneath the Ocean

The Gala Committee is pleased to announce that planning is well underway for the 31st Gala Dinner & Dance. The event will be held on Saturday, September 16th, 2023 with the theme “An Evening Beneath the Ocean”. Over the 31 years of holding this event, the Foundation has raised $1,074,136 all going towards the purchase of equipment and programs at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. LUNGtivity™ Program

LUNGtivity™ is a community evidence-based exercise program designed for people living with COPD and other respiratory issues. With specially trained instructors, the classes are gentle and low-key, explicitly tailored to the needs of those affected by lung disease. The program runs either virtually or in-person, and participants can take part either standing or seated with accommodation for wheelchair access. Helps to encourage daily movement and function and self-management of conditions. LUNGtivity ™ provides a safe and accessible environment. Build Your Mental Hygiene at Work

Your level of mental fitness can often determine your ability to deal with stressful situations, thrive through change and ultimately, perform at your best. We know it’s important but how many of us commit time every day as we do with our physical hygiene? Here are a few mental hygiene practices you can incorporate into your day and/or encourage others at work to practice. Just try one at a time! 1) Do a round of gratitude at each meeting 2) Write down one thing you achieved and felt great about each day. 3) Practice acceptance of what you don’t like, but can’t change.

Importance of Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 plays an essential role in red blood cell formation, nerve function, cell metabolism and DNA production. It can be found in meat, poultry, fish and dairy, or as a supplement. Your body can store vitamin B12 for many years so most individuals will not have a B12 deficiency. However, the following people may be more prone to deficiency: vegetarians/vegans, older adults, or people with digestive tract conditions that affect the absorption of nutrients. Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to fatigue, anemia, muscle weakness, intestinal problems, nerve damage, and mood disturbances. Live Each Day as if it’s Your Last

Albert Einstein says: “There are only two ways to live your life; one is as though nothing is a miracle, the other is as though everything is a miracle”. What would it take for YOU to live each day as if it was your last? What would need to change? Who would you spend it with and how would you choose to spend your time? Anything you would want to resolve, share, create or impart? What would you want to savor and fully enjoy on your last day on earth in this body? Collect all this precious wisdom and begin living it daily. Saying yes fully and unapologetically to what brings you joy and no thank you to what depletes and drains you. Daring to live and love fully!

BRHC Foundation Thanks Canadian Tire

The BRHC Foundation would like to extend our sincerest thanks to Canadian Tire and Jim & Karen Crighton for their generosity and ongoing support of the BRHC Foundation! This year their annual donation will go towards the purchase of a mini c-arm for the Operating Room at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. The mini c-arm is used for Orthopedic cases as well as for some Pain Clinic procedures. Thank you for your continuing support of healthcare in our region!

CEO Announcement

The Alzheimer Society of Manitoba’s CEO Wendy Schettler is set to retire at the end of May 2023. Wendy’s commitment to building a strong organization has shaped her career throughout her 22-year history with the Society, with the last 10 years as CEO. With the number of Manitobans living with dementia expected to triple by 2050, Wendy ensured the Society was ready to meet the growing needs of Manitobans before making her decision to retire. We are delighted to announce current Program Director, Erin Crawford, as incoming CEO, effective June 1. Wendy and Erin are working together to ensure a smooth shift in leadership.
