Natural Healing For Your Body

Bowen is a restorative therapy that allows the body to heal itself. It can provide a path for the body to heal even in the presence of a chronic pain condition such as fibromyalgia or sensory neuropathy. In addition to restoring muscle and nervous system integrity, Bowen treatments can shift the central nervous system from the sympathetic (flight and fight) response to the parasympathetic (rest and restoration) response. As a result, it can positively affect physiological functions such as circulation, arterial pressure and heart rate, digestion, sleep, lymphatics and the endocrine system. Bowen is very gentle such that individuals, even when in constant pain, find the treatment relaxing and calming for the body. Bowen can be performed over loose clothing or with the individual sitting in a chair or a walker. This makes it ideal for individuals of limited mobility.

5 Tips for Eye Strain Relief

1. Get a comprehensive eye exam. Having routine exams is the most important thing you can do to prevent or treat eye strain problems.

2. Use proper lighting. Eye strain is often caused by harsh interior lighting. Many computer users find their eyes feel better if they can avoid working under overhead florescent tubing. Avoid blue light!

3. Minimize glare. If you wear glasses, purchase lenses with anti-reflective coating. AR coating reduces glare by minimizing the amount of light reflecting off the front and back surfaces of your eyeglass lenses.

4. Create a soothing eye mask using tea bags. Tea bags contain tannins that can help constrict vessels, relieving puffy eyes from eye strain.

5. A major cause of eye strain is dry eyes. Use over-the-counter artificial tears if your eyes feel dry after reading, knitting, or concentrating for a long period of time.

Grace, Loveliness & Confidence

Amoena is a Latin word that translates to grace and loveliness. For over 40 years, this lingerie and clothing brand has provided options for women, specifically those who have had a surgery related to breast cancer. With lingerie, active wear, leisure wear, nightwear and swimwear, all of the clothing is pocketed so that a breast form may be worn, but it is not limited to women who need a breast form. The Valletta tank top for example, is made of ‘modal’, which is a rayon made from beech trees. This fabric is comfortable and easy to wear. The Valletta tank top is constructed with a supportive shelf bra, therefore alleviating the need to wear a bra. Perfect for summer time on its own, under jackets or blazers or worn as a camisole. Wear the Amoena line of clothing with grace, loveliness and confidence.

Foam Rollers for Aching Muscles

Everyone is asking about foam rollers. Foam rollers, therapy balls and self-massage toys are all a form of self-myofascial release. All muscles have a ’tissue wrap’ known as the fascia. The fascia can become bound, thick and lumpy resulting in painful trigger points. Foam rollers can be used to ‘roll out’ or lengthen and relax our tight muscles. You can even break those lumps or adhesions in the tissue which will cause minor swelling, but increased blood flow which will help feed and relax your aching muscles. Technique is important. Many clients have just jumped on the roll bandwagon and created more pain or injury. Learn how to proceed safely at home and your foam roller can become a nightly ritual you look forward to in front of the television.

Time for Change

Over 10,000 ingredients, commonly used in personal care products, are industrial chemicals: proven carcinogens, neurotoxins, reproductive toxins, hormone disruptors, pesticides, engine degreasers & plasticizers. Exposure occurs daily, through skin absorption, every time you apply toothpaste, shampoo, soap, lotion, etc. The average person is exposed to over 120 highly toxic ingredients every day before 9am. Ingredients are absorbed into your skin, continue into your blood stream & accumulate in your organs. It’s never been more important to start reducing your daily exposure to these chemicals by making the shift to 100% Organic and Toxic-Free products for your home and body. Your Family deserves it!

How Stress Affects Our Health

Stress has a profound effect on the body and its ability to heal and function at optimal levels. When an individual experiences ongoing stress, it can overload the circuits within the body, causing them to fail or be severely compromised. This is just like plugging too many appliances into an outlet and tripping a circuit breaker in your home. You have blown a fuse and must go reset it. Often the body cannot reset these blown circuits on its own, so the body continues to function in a less than ideal state. This ultimately leads to degeneration, illness and pain in the body – a sign that it is unable to reset these blown circuits. So often we get stuck in a cycle of stress where we function from stress mode even though in the moment we are not actually encountering anything stressful. Is it time to break the cycle?

Post-Workout Recovery

It is always good for your body if you can eat a proper snack following a strength-training workout. Energy is needed to perform exercise. Your body stores energy in the forms of glycogen (carbohydrates) and triglycerides (fat). The muscle tissue is where the protein stores reside in the form of amino acids. During the workout, your body uses its energy stores to get through the demands of the exercises. Resistance training exercises cause micro tearing in the muscle fibres. In order to replenish the energy stores and to repair and strengthen muscle, it is necessary to have a snack rich in carbohydrates and protein shortly after a workout. Here is one example of how to receive these benefits: Post-Workout Smoothie: 1 cup berries, 1 cup chocolate almond milk, 1/4 cup vanilla Greek yogurt, 1 cup ice. For a little extra protein add one scoop of natural whey protein powder.

Ask Your Dentist

Q: How long do dentures last. A: Dentures can last a long time. As your gums and bones change dentures can be relined to make them fit well again. What can’t be changed readily is the way dentures support your face and lips. Without proper support your chin will get closer to your nose and the lower half of your face will begin to look collapsed. This will make you look older, will cause deeper lines around your mouth and make your jaw joint or TMJ uncomfortable. To compensate for these changes you should have new dentures every 5 of 6 years. The dentures themselves make look fine and they may feel like they fit well but the loss of support means they need replacing. New dentures can give you a facelift.

Managing Multiple Medications

When taking medications more than twice a day, the likelihood of forgetting increases. For this reason, it is preferable to use convenience packing / bubble packs to serve as a reminder. This type of packaging can help to space your medications appropriately. Prescription medications can interact with each other, sometimes causing adverse side effects. However, over the counter products such as vitamins or herbal products can also interact with prescription medications – this can potentially change the effectiveness of the drug and cause harm. If you are on prescription drugs, it’s important to have a discussion with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any over the counter products. A pharmacist can also conduct a full medication review with all your prescription and over the counter products and advise you on safe use. If you are on a complex medication regime, a pharmacist is able to help you monitor the effects of your medication.
