Hearing Protection for Every Event

The cheers and screaming at sporting events and the music at concerts can literally be deafening. The level of noise created at these events is enough to put every fan, athlete, and employee in attendance at risk for hearing damage and permanent hearing loss. Consider wearing earplugs at these events. Hats and sunscreen are worn to protect you from the sun. Coats and gloves are worn to protect you from the cold. Adding earplugs to your protective wear arsenal can protect your hearing.

Spring Into Love

Spring is a season of cliches — birds singing, bees buzzing and people falling madly in love. If you’re a scientist though, the love sickness can be blamed on one very real thing. Dopamine! Dopamine is a naturally occurring chemical your brain uses to make you want things. There are other systems involved in love, but when it comes to new love, dopamine is the main culprit. And with enough of it swirling around your system, you’re prone to fall in love — and fall hard. No question, the newness of spring provides an ideal context for starting a new relationship. The changing weather and sunshine energize us — especially those of us who live in Manitoba where we’ve had to hibernate all winter. We’ve survived winter and now it’s time to start your search for love with the help of an experienced matchmaker.

Suffering from Morton’s Neuroma

Morton’s neuroma is thickening of the tissue around the nerve between the bases of the toes (usually between the third and fourth toes). Foot pain, odd sensations, or numbness over the ball of the foot are the usual symptoms. It is more common in women and can be a result of wearing high heels or tight shoes. Morton’s neuroma will not disappear on its own. The symptoms can be managed, depending on what type of shoes you wear, how much time you spend on your feet, and whether you wear a cushioning insole, such as those from VoxxLife.

Allergy Season Is Back

Most people suffering from head pressure, itchy eyes, and a runny or stuffy nose this allergy season will find only short-lived, or no relief at all, from over the counter remedies. Alternative approaches, such as nutritional supplementation and Biofeedback focus on more than just symptomatic relief. They enable the body’s ability to remove existing allergens imbedded in the sinus tissues, thereby minimizing the histamine and inflammatory reactions. This stops the over-production of mucus that the body makes to try and push the allergens out. Take a different approach this allergy season – treat the cause, not just the symptoms.

What is Adaptive Clothing?

One of the many challenges for many individuals who suffer from disability, and for those who care for them, is the difficulty of getting dressed and undressed. The design of regular clothing can make it very difficult, and in some cases impossible, for those with certain disabilities to dress themselves. Adaptive clothes are garments specially designed to be easy to wear. Features such as side-opening elastic waist pants, Velcro closures, and open-back tops and blouses make them easy to take on and off. We carry premium quality brands for both men and women.

Get a Yearly Denture Check-up

Your dentures should be checked on an annual basis to ensure you still have a correct fit. Your face and the tissues in your mouth change over the years, while your dentures are rigid and stay the same. Your appearance and comfort can be compromised the longer you delay receiving care from your denturist. Annual visits to your denture clinic can help ward off many potential problems including headaches, neck and joint pain, irritated gums, indigestion, problems with chewing, and even bone loss and occasionally changes in facial contour. Are you due for a check-up?

Ask The Expert

Q.What is medication nonadherence?
A.Medication nonadherence is when a patient doesn’t take a medication, either willfully or inadvertently, as prescribed by their healthcare provider. Studies have shown that 50% of Canadians do not take their prescription medications exactly as prescribed. Each year, medication nonadherence is the cause of 10% of all hospital admissions, 25% of hospital admissions for the elderly, and 23% of all nursing home admissions. Medications are an important tool in the management of health, but if they are not used properly, they can cause serious harm.

Own Your Thoughts

Who’s responsible for your thoughts? If you are not responsible for how you think, then are you responsible for what happens to you? Are you a victim? Yes, if you think you are. Yet, it’s an illusion and is a powerless viewpoint. When you identify with your small self, you are a leaf in the wind, subject to the world around you. It means you will feel secure or safe, and you are subject to anxiety, fear of what could or might happen. Decide to choose your thoughts, and influence and reshape your world and the world of others.

Hair Loss and Cancer

New (or relatively old) technology has been around for over 50 years that actually works to prevent hair loss in cancer patients. Ice packs are routinely used in chemotherapy to prevent nail damage. Cooling the scalp during chemo can prevent hair loss in many patients and likely prevents permanent hair loss. New scalp-cooling technology is fast becoming the standard of care in the US at most of the major cancer centres, and has been used in Europe with great success. Many experts agree that a degree of control, body image, and privacy are important for cancer patients, and looking like themselves during treatment can help provide such confidence boosts.
