Love Keeps You Healthy

Being in love not only gives you a bounce in your step, but it also has several proven health benefits. When you are in love, your brain produces a hormone, which is its own natural form of amphetamine called dopamine that contributes to feelings of elation, pleasure, optimism, energy, and a sense of well-being. Physical touch, such as hugging, handholding, and lovemaking, releases a hormone called oxytocin, which lowers stress hormones. Studies have demonstrated that people releasing these hormones have stronger immune systems, lower blood pressure, greater resistance to colds and flus, and decreased stress and depression. It has been documented that happily coupled people also tend to live longer. We have always known eating healthy foods help maintain a healthy body. Now there is no disputing that healthy relationships foster a long and healthy life. Finding your life partner has more benefits than we once realized.

What is the difference between Religion and Spirituality?

Many may confuse Spirituality for Religion. Some even think of it as a sect or a cult, but this is because of their lack of knowledge and their fear of being manipulated.

Upon further study you come to understand what spirituality actually is. It is our nature and is nothing mysterious or supernatural nor in any way connected to a sect or cult of any kind.

Religion requires conforming – Spirituality is freedom Religion tells you to follow an ideology and obey certain rules or you’ll be punished otherwise. Spirituality is an ”inside job” and “what feels right for you”. You are free to be what you truly are without having to conform to anything that doesn’t resonate as right with you. Spirituality leads to an awareness that we are all one. It is all up to you to choose what you’ll honor, and choose to believe.

Religion tells you what to think– Spirituality teaches you how to discover the Truth yourself.

Religion tells you what to believe and what is right. Spirituality lets you discover it by yourself and understand it in your own unique way. It encourages discovering your own inner power. It encourages faith and trust in your own truth through the Spirit within.

Religion creates separation – Spirituality unites Globally, there are many religions and they all claim to have the right story. Spirituality sees the nuggets of truth in all of them. The truth is same for everyone despite our differences. It focuses on the divine message they share and not on the differences.

Religion creates dependency – Spirituality creates self-empowerment Religion requires adherence and compliance to be happy. Spirituality shows you happiness is an inside job. Happiness is always found deep in ourselves and only we are responsible for it. We are always spiritual beings not just while attending some events or buildings. Divinity is in us and we are always worthy.

Religion speaks of punishment – Spirituality understands cause and effect Religion says that if we don’t obey certain rules there is punishment in the afterlife…Hell and damnation. Spirituality teaches that every action has a reaction/consequence. The punishment from our actions is not a geographical location like Hell but a consequence of our actions in our daily lives.

Religion says follow me – Spirituality encourages following your own inner wisdom, the Spirit within The foundation of many religions is to make you follow their rules and dogma. Spirituality encourages self-discovery and proving Spirit exists for yourself.

Every religion has something true in it. Spirituality encourages discovering the Truth for yourself.

“My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.” Albert Einstein.

Feel Better with Bowenwork

A man in his mid-thirties came in for Bowenwork, but the way he walked made it look like he could be in his mid-eighties. He was wincing from the excruciating pain he was feeling in his lower back, and taking tiny steps to get into my office. When I asked how much pain he was in from 1-10, he said about a 12. He had a physical job, and it was taking a visible toll on his body. Initially, he was skeptical that anything could help, but he didn’t want to go for surgery, and he wanted something that wouldn’t crack or physically force movement to his body. After three gentle treatments, he couldn’t believe it. His back pain was gone, his knee pain had vanished, and his seasonal allergies were not acting up either. “I don’t know what you did,” he said…”but it worked!”

Why Athletes Should Float

Floating therapy involves lying in a dense epsom salt water solution in a tank to help reduce physical and mental stresses. Within each float cabin, 10 inches of water contains 1,000 pounds of dissolved epsom salts. The solution is heated to the same temperature as your skin – approximately 93.5 degrees Fahrenheit – which gives you the sensation of weightlessness. This helps ensure your body is relieved of the physical stress that gravity causes on a daily basis. Floating therapy is used by a number of world-renowned athletes to treat various sports related conditions and aid in their recovery. Benefits include: 1. Accelerates the recovery from injury. 2. Increases energy. 3. Creates an ideal space for visualization. 4. Boosts the immune system. 5. Reduces lactic acid levels in the body. 6. Aids in facilitated rest, improving athletes’ exposure to fatigue. 7. Improves sports performance. 8. Reduces risk of injury.

People with arthritis, carpal tunnel, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, and even diabetic skin ulcers are experiencing incredible pain relief and healing with this technology. Different from standard laser therapy, this Health Canada licensed medical device can penetrate the skin 3-4 cm deep, stimulating healing at the cellular level. In doing so, it increases circulation, oxygenation, and tissue perfusion. These combined effects result in decreased inflammation and muscular pain, and increased wound healing, even for chronic conditions that do not respond well to other types of treatment. Near Infrared Tissue Stimulation, now available in Manitoba, is being used in Ontario to treat arthritis, shoulder injuries, back pain, tendonitis, knee pain, chronic foot wounds, and fungal infections. Heed the Gut-Brain Connection

More and more evidence is showing that your gut health has an enormous effect on your brain, your body’s immune system, and hormonal secretion. Food sensitivities can cause ill effects beyond the physical symptoms of inflammation, allergies, and asthma. Anxiety, depression, irritability, and mood swings can also appear, because they create imbalances in key chemicals in the brain. Dietary changes that include probiotics, fermented foods, and natural fats help your microbiome and gut-brain signaling. Stress and cortisol equip you with energy to attend to tasks at hand; however, excess or chronic stress has a negative effect on brain chemistry, causing thyroid dysfunction and/ or adrenal fatigue, which leads to compromised mental and physical health. Know that Brainwave Optimization brings relaxation to the master regulator of the nervous system – the brain – so it can help your gut. In a “both-and” world, it’s all connected.

Game, Set, & TENNIS ELBOW!

Spring has arrived and people are heading outside to play the sports they’ve missed throughout the winter, including tennis and golf. It’s easy to spend hours playing these sports. Sometimes we tend to overdo it, and the repetitive stress on the body can cause aches and pains. One common area where one might experience problems is the elbow. Both golf and tennis put stress on your forearm extensor and flexor muscles. It is important to pay attention to the SHARP signs of inflammation (swelling, heat, altered function, redness, and pain). The best ways to treat these conditions include rest, stretches, massage, and ice. Giving the affected area enough time to go through the inflammatory process will allow it to heal. Eccentric exercise can then be added to strengthen the muscles. Another option is putting an elbow strap on the muscle belly to alter where the repetitive stress is pulling.
