Delightful Food Tip: Broth for Another Day
We’ve all been there—buying bulk liquid broth on a super sale only to realize it expires in just a couple of days. But fear not! Instead of making a colossal amount of soup or engaging in a messy water balloon battle, freeze that broth for later use. However, a word of caution: don’t freeze it directly in the cartons. Liquid expands when frozen, leading to bursts. Plus, the wax lining may affect the taste. Pour the broth into freezer-safe containers, filling them ¾ full, and enjoy 2-3 months of flavorful broth to elevate your culinary adventures. Stay tuned for next month’s revelation about the delightful world of wontons!

Grocery Delivery Program
Regardless of age, we all need to eat. But those groceries can be heavy, and the store can be busy and loud. Or you might not have time for it amidst all your other appointments and obligations. So let us shop on your behalf by joining our grocery program. Our members can phone or e-mail us on Monday and provide us with a detailed shopping list and a store to go to. We will buy what you need and deliver it to you. We can even buy non-food items like yarn or cutlery. And you’re not obligated to order every week. Some people even only order once to get that item from a store that’s too far from home. But slots are limited (another reason why our volunteers are so important) so contact us for more information.
Delightful Food Tip: Rice Cooker Eggs
Speaking of groceries, did you know that you can make eggs in a rice cooker? It’s so simple! Just fill it to the low mark with water and place your eggs in the steamer basket for 30-35 minutes. They’re very hot when they come out so use your oven mitts or tongs. Placing them in an ice bath for a few seconds will cause the shells to crack without cooling down the eggs, a process known as thermal expansion. Then it’s easy to peel them and enjoy with any topping you desire. I switch between chili powder, salt and black pepper, or paprika. Eggs are one of the most versatile foods to ever come from a farm. Don’t have eggs or a rice cooker? We can help. See the Grocery Delivery Program section above.
