Volunteers Needed!

Here at Saskatoon Services for Seniors we strive to make a difference every day. We do this though helping Seniors to remain in their own home for as long as safely possible. Two of our key services, especially in Spring, are Yard work and gardening programs. We are currently looking for volunteers to help with these programs. If you are interested in helping seniors in our community please contact our office today. We are very thankful to all of our wonderful volunteers who help us to provide services to the seniors in our community.

Yardwork Services

Services include lawn cutting, spring and fall cleanup of leaves, gardening, flower beds and weeding. As with all of our services we can provide as much or as little based on what your needs are. We can also do small hedge trimming and pruning. As always if cost is a barrier we will work with you to overcome that barrier. During spring and fall we can also do outside window cleaning and eaves cleaning as well.

A Permanent Hair-Loss Solution

Natural-looking hair transplant results are possible today thanks to advancements in the procedure, with improvements including placing a few healthy hairs at a time and creating a more natural-looking hairline. Men and women are both good candidates for hair transplants, provided they have enough healthy hair on their scalp that can be transplanted and have the ability to grow hair on the thinning area of the scalp. Most transplants take between four and eight hours and only require anesthesia that numbs the scalp. Results can typically be seen between six and nine months after surgery, or sometimes 12 months.

Housekeeping Services

Saskatoon Services for Seniors offers housekeeping services for seniors and disabled individuals in Saskatoon. Our staff is screened and fully insured. We are here to assist with many household cleaning services such as kitchens, bathrooms, laundry, dusting and wall washing. We only provide the services that you require and as such only have a one hour minimum for each appointment. We can provide regular weekly service, bi-weekly services or just when you need us. The fee involved is based on the senior’s income and if cost is a barrier, though our donors we can usually overcome this barrier to be able to get seniors the help they need.

Mediterranean Health Principles

Research has shown that following a Mediterranean diet can reduce the chance of developing conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, cancer, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. The individual foods within the diet are particularly beneficial to health – using a wide range of organic fruits, vegetables, nuts and herbs gives the body maximum access to sources of vitamins, minerals and nutrients. The Mediterranean Diet offers a scientifically researched, affordable, balanced and health-promoting lifestyle choice. Help reduce your risk of a premature death and increase the chance of a healthy retirement.

Regaining Mobility & Independence

Our day-to-day lives often involve activities that require us to venture out into public, whether it’s going to the bank, attending medical appointments, shopping, or spending time with friends and family. For those who experience mobility challenges, simple errands can be more difficult and less convenient, especially when having to rely on others for transport. Mobility scooters can help you or your loved one regain a sense of independence and control as errands become easier and access to more destinations becomes possible again. Regaining mobility and independence can simplify our daily tasks and offer us more choices.

Seniors and Stress

Chronic stress is harmful to people of all ages, but its impact on older adults can be particularly severe, increasing the risk of age-related diseases, hastening cognitive decline, and even triggering falls. Stressors that are common amongst the elderly include loss of control, personal loss, declining health, financial worries, personal safety, and loss of independence. To reduce stress, get regular exercise, eat balanced meals to ensure the mind and body are properly fueled, and ask for help. Talking with a trusted family member, friend, or healthcare professional, at the very least, releases pent-up stress and may even lead to a solution.

Feeling Restless?

With everything that’s currently going on in the world, it’s easy to feel restless, overwhelmed or anxious. Rather than stressing about all the uncertainty, now is the time to put your efforts and focus into what you actually can control. Taking time every day for movement or exercise, meditation, gentle stretching, or getting outside for a walk or run in the fresh air will make a world of difference for both your physical and mental well-being. As we navigate these uncertain times, keep on moving!
