The Gratitude-Driven Life by Marissa Alarcon. Why is it so difficult to be grateful for the things we have? Human nature seems designed to keep us focused on what we do not have. We compete and think only of getting more. However, we can be happy. The Gratitude-Driven Life is an exploration to change our attitude and be more grateful.
Dental Care for Children
When your child can write, not print, their name, they have the ability to do a thorough job of brushing and flossing. Until then, have them try brushing their teeth first on their own and then help them do a more thorough job after. For flossing, have your child lie down on a bed or floor so you can see what you’re doing and limit their movement. Begin cleaning your child’s mouth before their first tooth appears, and have your child see a dentist by 12 months of age or within 6 months of eruption of the first tooth.
Book Club: Lovely
In Lovely, Amanda Martinez Beck talks openly about the purpose of bodies, what makes a body good, and the need to reframe the way we think and speak about our own bodies and the bodies of the people around us. Much more than a “self-image” read, Lovely will retrain you to think about your whole self — body and soul — in terms of mercy, kindness, and wonder rather than criticism, failure, and self-loathing. Don’t let the scale, the mirror, your interior critic, or the world around you keep you trapped in lies. All bodies are good bodies, including yours.
The Safe Alternative To Online Dating
Online dating can be exhausting, dangerous and demoralizing. Hours of searching profiles, followed by unsuccessful date after date can result in dating ‘burn out’. Furthermore, when it comes to online dating, you never know who you are really meeting. You have no idea about their actual age and relationship status, their true intentions or if they have a criminal history. Online dating can be extremely dangerous. This is why I recommend a professional matchmaker. An experienced matchmaker will introduce you to the right match, who is screened, and hand picked for you. Finding true love is important and hiring a matchmaker could be the best decision you ever make.
Massage for Moms-to-Be
Pregnancy involves a lot of change for a mom-to-be. Along with the excitement of having a baby, it can be a stressful time with various health and body shifts that can cause fatigue, mood changes, and aches and pains. Prenatal massage performed by a highly trained and experienced registered massage therapist is a safe and relaxing way to treat yourself during your pregnancy. Massage can help manage blood pressure; reduce headaches, backaches, and other body pain; help with proper posture; aid in getting better sleep; and decrease fluid retention that can cause swelling, digestive issues, and sinus pain during pregnancy.
Residential Care for a Loved One
It is hard to watch the health of your loved one decline. Making the decision to let someone else take over their care is often difficult. It is recommended that you begin the search for a care home before a crisis makes it necessary. Unfortunately, sometimes a medical emergency like a fall, takes the decision from your hands. Look for a place where they deliver genuine care and help residents to live life to its fullest and where they can feel at home. Exercising due diligence when choosing a home will pay off with a lot of peace of mind knowing that your loved one’s physical and medical challenges are met.
Healing with Reiki
Reiki Healing is effective on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels. The very nature of Reiki Energy is such that it can do no harm. It is not good or bad energy. It is simply the energy of life. Reiki works by clearing and charging pathways within the body, bringing balance, and allowing life force to flow in a healing and natural way.
Reiki is not a replacement for medical treatment, but for many, it helps relieve pain and discomfort and has been shown to speed treatments and healing for physical, emotional, mental and spiritual conditions.
Ask The Expert
Q. How can I succeed with my new hearing aids?
A. Be patient and positive. Hearing loss usually happens over several years so getting used to hearing aids won’t happen overnight. Wear your hearing aids every day. Try wearing your hearing aids 8-10 hours/day. Remember, you’re training your brain to hear sound again. Follow up appointments. See your hearing care professional 1-2 weeks after receiving your new hearing aids. Settings may need to be fine-tuned as you go through your trial period. Have realistic expectations. Remember, hearing aids will help you hear better, but they may not be able to help you hear perfectly.
Let’s Talk About Travel Health
Travelling around the globe is more commonplace today than ever. But when people travel, they often unwittingly bring along extra baggage that they didn’t even know they packed. Viruses and bacteria are always on the move, as travelers carry them either by travelling while ill or by being a carrier – having the infection but not experiencing symptoms yet. The good news is
that if you do come in contact with a virus or bacteria, there is an excellent chance that an antibiotic or other medication will preserve your good health. Getting vaccinated against diseases that are common to your travel destination will give you extra
peace of mind before you hop on that plane.
Music and Dementia
The effects of dementia are devastating to individuals and their families. Researchers are keen to find ways to ease its symptoms and restore abilities and memory. Studies on music and dementia have shown promising findings. Did you know that the area of the brain associated with musical memory tends to be least affected by dementia? Music therapy may help reduce cognitive decline while improving the memory of people with dementia. In one study, test subjects performed better on memory tests when they listened to music. It has also been found that the emotional content of music can bring back emotional memories.
Freedom At Any Age
These days the mobility market is full of possibilities. Rather than being confined to the inside of your home or relying on friends and family to take you out, consider the freedom of a mobility scooter. Battery powered scooters have come a long way and are now more affordable than ever. They provide the freedom to get around, they conserve physical energy, and they also provide you access to places you may not have previously been able to go. Along with the freedom, mobility scooters offer an element of safety. They provide stability and safety both indoors and outdoors reducing the risk of falls and injury.
