We currently run our club with one staff member, in addition to our class instructors, so we are extremely grateful and reliant on our member volunteers to help us with running our programs. We are always looking for talented individuals that can share their crafty side for new programming as we develop more activities. Interested in giving back? Whatever your skill or your age, we can find a place for you. To find out how you can help, call 204-416-1067 or email us at Archwood55@shaw.ca. Remember we are a club of people that look out for each other, and volunteering is an important way to give back!
Start Changing Lives Now
Archwood 55 Plus is meeting a need in the community, especially after the pandemic where the need to get seniors out of their homes for mental and physical stimulation has never been greater. However, we can’t do it without you. Please give generously and make a difference in the quality of life for our seniors. Your donation will go a long way to continue providing just the right programs and services and help people reconnect with the community in a safe way. Every $100 donated provides an hour of services to older adults

Who We Are
Archwood 55 Plus is a community-based non-profit, charitable organization offering lunches, art and fitness classes, social activities, bus trips and other services to adults ages 55 and older living in the Winnipeg area. Our goal is to encourage graceful aging and empower older adults to lead healthy and active lives while socializing with their peers.
To Clean or Not to Clean?
The outer ear can benefit from a good cleaning now and then but in most cases, there is no need to clean the ear canal with a cotton swab. During showers, enough water enters the ear canal to loosen any wax. The skin in your ear canal grows in an outward, spiral pattern. As it sloughs off, ear wax goes with it. Someone with heavy wax build-up may need a trip to the doctor. If you think wax could be affecting your hearing, contact your hearing professional. They can assess the situation by looking inside your ear with an otoscope and suggest your best course of action.
Dementia and Alzheimer Support
People living with dementia can feel isolated and unsure of where to go for support. You are not alone. The Alzheimer Society is here to help. Our offices across the province can provide you with the information, education and support. Plus, with our virtual and in-person programming, you can join our education sessions, Minds in Motion® program and support groups from the comfort of your own home.
Contact us today to reach a reassuring ear by phone or get a quick response by email. Visit our website to find an office near you at alzheimer.mb.ca.
Do You Need Dentures?
Did you know the need for dentures isn’t only determined by your age? You could benefit from dentures if you have: 1) Missing teeth – fewer teeth doing all of the work can weaken or damage them. 2) Shifting teeth – can indicate potential gum disease, and unstable teeth may eventually need to be extracted, leading to a need for dentures. 3) Poor oral hygiene – not taking care of your teeth can lead to health issues beyond your mouth. 4) Gum problems – sensitive and bleeding gums could be a sign of gum disease, which can lead to tooth loss over time.
Control Your Destiny
At times, you may struggle to find you meaning. By meaning, I am speaking about your purpose or significance. This could be in a relationship, at work, or in the community. This lack of clarity impacts how you convey yourself and the quality you bring. As a Coach, I partner with you in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires you to maximize your personal and professional potential. We will set goals that are significant, remove any obstacles or barriers to you reaching them, and ensure they are aligned with your values and passion.

Keep Your Pet Cool This Summer
Heat exhaustion can lead to brain damage, organ failure, and death. Here are a few tips and reminders to keep your pets safe. Don’t let them play hard on hot days and make sure they have access to fresh water. Before walking your pets, test the temperature of the pavement. If you can’t hold the back of your hand on the pavement for 10 seconds, it is too hot for your pets’ pads. Never leave your pet in a vehicle, even for “just a minute” while you run errands. Studies have shown that, even with the windows partially open, interior temperatures can rise to over 38 C in about 7 minutes at 31 C.
