SAD stands for Seasonal Affective Disorder, which is mainly attributed to the reduction in sunlight hours in winter and is your body’s reaction to the changes in season. With SAD you might feel sluggish or moody, have a loss of appetite, and even lose interest in activities you normally love. One way to combat these feelings and the wintertime blues is to get your body moving! Exercise, even light exercise, has been shown to improve mood and energy through increased blood flow and the release of certain endorphins, as well as improve sleep and alertness, and reduce anxiety and stress.

Acupuncture for Peripheral Neuropathy
Peripheral Neuropathy is a neurological condition that can cause symptoms such as weakness, cramping, decreased tendon reflexes, numbness, pain, and a burning sensation, usually in the limbs. The peripheral nervous system is commonly affected in diabetic patients, which is known as diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). Studies have found that acupuncture can help improve nerve conduction in those with DPN, as well as numbness, pain, rigidity and alterations in temperature perception. Studies also suggest that acupuncture may accelerate the nerve regenerative process in DPN patients, who normally may have delayed nerve regeneration that can cause pain and numbness.

Supporting Mental Health
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a noticeable impact on the mental health of Canadians, and the federal government has taken some good initial steps towards addressing this with an economic recovery plan and the free Wellness Together Canada portal. However, about 1.6 million Canadians were living with unmet mental health needs before the COVID-19 pandemic. The Canadian Mental Health Association is working to expand and adapt its virtual services and supports countrywide, and is also calling on the federal government to take further action to support Canadians’ mental health needs.
