Spring is Coming!

For those of us who tend to hibernate during the cold winter months, Spring is the time that we wake up and feel ready to attempt all those upkeep jobs that we put off in the fall. Cleaning up the yard, repairing that broken fence post, cleaning out the rain gutters. However, before starting any strenuous activity, particularly after months of relative inactivity, a good warm up is key. Before trying to pull out that fence post, make sure to walk for a few minutes first to warm up your muscles. Follow this up with some light stretches to ensure that you are loose and ready to work. This will help to reduce that chance of pulled muscles, or even worse injuries.

Clean Eating Recipe

Purple Power! Beet Black Seed Detoxer Smoothie.

Ingredients: 1 medium raw beet, peeled, and shredded. 1 large Gala, Fuji or Honeycrisp apple, chopped into 1 inch pieces. 2 inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled, and chopped fine (1 tablespoon). ½ teaspoon Enerex Black Seed Oil. ½ avocado. ½ lemon, juiced. ½ cup water (more, if needed). 2 teaspoons Chia seeds. 2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup (if needed).

Directions: Place all of the ingredients into food processor and blend until smooth and creamy. Serves 2.

Essential Oil Review: Cajeput

Cajeput 100% Pure Joy Naturals essential oil is also known as White Tea Tree. The name Cajeput is actually the Indonesian word for ‘white wood’. Gut Feeling

Poor gut health has been linked to fatigue, mood disorders like depression and anxiety, and a variety of conditions associated with nutrient deficiencies, such as anemia.
Fibre is a great way to keep things regular and increase the elimination of toxins and waste from your digestive tract. Eat a variety of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains and grasses. If reaching the recommended 10 servings of vegetables per day seems unattainable, consider adding a greens powder to your daily routine to make things easier. Look for a product that is gluten-free, contains probiotics, and is cold-pressed, as this maintains enzymes that improve the digestion and absorption of nutrients.

Know the Signs of Stroke

Stroke is the No. 2 cause of death worldwide, which means it’s important to know the warning signs. Remember F.A.S.T. (face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty or slurred speech – if you see any of these signs, it’s time to call 911). Other signs that someone is suffering from a stroke include sudden vision loss, a severe headache (caused by swelling in the brain), dizziness or imbalance, and nausea and vomiting (both of which are very common early signs of stroke). By understanding what to look for and taking the signs of stroke seriously, you could save a life!

Ask questions every time a new medication is prescribed, given or purchased. A full understanding of all aspects of medication is so important to help patients manage their health. Keep Your Joints Happy

Many of us have an old injury, or joint that tends to stiffen up with a change in weather. With an increase in barometric pressure or humidity, especially in these nasty cold spells we’ve been experiencing, our joints get cold and cranky just like the rest of us. These changes cause the “synovial fluid” in our joints to increase in viscosity, causing inflammation. A few easy ways to keep our joints happy is with extra layers of warmth. For examples: Wearing Long John’s, a knee or elbow sleeve, tensor bandage or even putting your clothes in the dryer before putting them on. Stay warm out there!

Signs of Poor Mental Health

It can be hard to know if someone is suffering from poor mental health. It is impossible to know the thoughts another person is experiencing unless they share them with us. If you suspect someone may be struggling, look for common signs of poor mental health, such rapid mood swings, increased anxiety, social withdrawal, and lack of self care. Other signs to look for include concentration or memory issues, lack of motivation, and withdrawing from friends and activities. Offering to listen and sharing about your mental health can open up lines of communication so they can start to feel better.
