Mobile Sports Betting

Mobile sports betting is becoming normalized in our society. Advertisements abound, as do apps and opportunities to play. Unlike traditional parlay betting on 2-3 games and waiting for the outcome of a game, modern sports betting is usually done on a phone app that includes single games, in-game, and prop betting options. These micro-bet opportunities and early cash-out features mimic day trading behaviours and language. If your play is based on emotions and reactions with little time to reflect before you place that bet, it might lead to problematic gambling. Take a break. Tap out. Avoid bet regret.

New Holiday Traditions

This month may be the first time for get-togethers after a long time and there may be loved ones who are no longer with us. The first holiday season after losing a loved one can be a very difficult time. Acknowledge that things are going to be different and the holidays will never be the same as they once were. Hold your memories of loved ones close and connect with other people during these cold winter days. There will be opportunities to make the holidays meaningful; be open to the change and accept it for what it is – a new opportunity to create stronger family bonds and traditions.

Boost Your Immunity

It seems like this cold and flu season is off to a particularly aggressive start! Here are some things that we can all do to strengthen our immune systems. *When the sun is shining, soak it up. *Stay active. *Limit sugar and processed foods in your diet. *Stay hydrated. *Get lots of rest. Prioritize sleep more than ever. *Get the flu shot. If you do get sick, contact your pharmacist. They are equipped with the advice you need to feel better as soon as possible. They can recommend over-the-counter remedies for your symptoms and ensure they don’t interact with your other medications.

A Really Useful Gift

At Christmas time, it can be hard to find a suitable gift for elderly loved ones. This year, give them and yourself the feeling of security while honoring their request to age in place. Installing a medical alarm system in their home can increase their independence and reduce the risks of living alone or being left alone in their home. With a locally monitored system, they may be able to remain in their own home. You can be comforted by the fact that if something should happen, help is just a button push away.

Making Christmas Magic for Residents in Need

For more than 50 years, the SOS Caring for Community at Christmas program has been creating the magic of Christmas for District 69 residents. With community support, we can make sure local children find a special gift under their tree and that families and individuals can choose food that is important to them over the holidays, using grocery store gift cards. To help fill the SOS Toy Shop, find an SOS Angel Tree at participating local businesses or drop off a new, unwrapped gift or donation to the SOS Community Services Centre in Parksville. For registration information, please visit the SOS website.

Are You Taking Good Enough Care Of Your …?

The liver doesn’t get enough attention when it comes to our health and vitality. The health of your liver impacts most of the organs in your body. At any given moment, it holds over 10% of your body’s blood supply and, depending on its health, it filters roughly 1.5 liters of blood per minute. It stores our primary energy source (glycogen) and many vitamins. It is also a major detoxification organ (mycotoxins, chemicals, heavy metals…) and helps maintain a healthy hormone balance. Come for a Bio-Well Scan to check areas of stress and energetic imbalance in your body.

Thank You & Happy Holidays

As another year draws to a close, we give thanks for the many blessings that we have received. We hosted our Women’s Wellness Expo once again after a two-and-a-half-year pause and look forward to hosting another Expo in February. We continue to publish this newsletter, along with four additional local ones here on the island, and continue to grow the WellnessHub, our local online resource. We thank our advertisers, readers, subscribers, distributors and community partners for helping us to continue to spread the wellness message. We wish everyone Peace, Happiness and Good Health this Holiday Season.

It Is Important to Remember

In Canada, we celebrate Remembrance Day on November 11th. It is a day to remember those who went to war and those who didn’t return. Their sacrifice made Canada a country that makes its own destiny. Remembering is important. If you are emotional about your memories, the Body Code healing modality can assist in putting them in perspective. A Certified Body/Emotion Code Practitioner can help you release unprocessed negative (trapped) emotions that will assist you with creating healthy memories.
