Do you Suffer from Neck Pain?

The pain might not be coming from your neck; as much as 80% of neck pain doesn’t. For example, if your stomach is cramping from eating food that you are sensitive to, that cramping will pull on the esophagus and cause tension in the front of the throat. To relieve that tension, your head will go forward and down and put strain on the muscles of the neck. What can you do? In this example, you can pay attention to what you eat. You can also get Rolfing sessions. Rolfers are trained to work on the body in this holistic way.

Is it Time to Downsize?

There comes a point when many of us have to move to a smaller home, but it doesn’t have to be sad or stressful. When downsizing, ask yourself if a possession brings you joy; if yes, keep it. If it is great Aunt Bertha’s lamp that you kept because you felt an obligation to do so, give it away to a relative or a thrift shop. When deciding what to give away or keep, it is helpful to have an objective third party help with the decision process. Services are available to guide you and make the process easy and enjoyable.

The Holidays and your Teeth

The holidays are coming, with candy, Christmas cookies, and fancy drinks. Go ahead and indulge in the delicious foods of the season in moderation while still following good dental hygiene. *Don’t brush your teeth right after you eat. The acids in foods can weaken your enamel if you brush too soon. By waiting 30 minutes, your saliva will neutralize some of the acid. *Watch your sugar intake. Too much sugar can negatively affect the PH of your saliva, which helps keep your teeth and gums healthy. *Be sure to brush and floss regularly. Happy Holidays!

Benefits of Biofield Tuning

Biofield Tuning is a sound healing modality using tuning forks combing the electrical field around our body. When working in this field with tuning forks, I can detect sound/electrical disturbances that reflect what happened at a particular time in one’s life. The fork(s) will be played until the sound comes into harmony, which means that the body is pinging back acceptance and integration of the sound. This moment becomes a re-sounding sympathetic resonance with the true frequencies of ourselves from the forks; in other words, we are getting tuned up, just like the vibrational, musical instrument that we are. Clients leave feeling lighter, more grounded (yes, like an electrical current!) and more relaxed after the session.

Words to Live By

“This is a time of peace and great joy. Among the rush of worldly coming and going, choose to remain calm and peaceful in your heart.” – Keith Macpherson

Reducing Your Dementia Risk

Dementia prevention focuses on reducing risk factors that contribute to cognitive decline. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle plays a key role, including regular physical activity, a balanced diet (like the Mediterranean or DASH diet), and staying mentally active through learning and social engagement. Managing health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol is crucial, as they increase the risk of dementia. Avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption also helps. While there’s no guaranteed way to prevent dementia, research suggests that staying physically, mentally, and socially engaged may delay or reduce the likelihood of developing cognitive impairments.

Staying Social with Hearing Loss

For someone with hearing loss, social situations are challenging. Help improve communication with them by following these simple tips: • Gain their attention before you begin talking. • Speak naturally and don’t shout. Speak distinctly, at a normal rate, using pauses to give the person time to process speech. • Keep your hands away from your face while talking. • Avoid sudden changes of topic. And if the subject changes, tell them what you are talking about now. • Seat them where they can see as many faces as possible. • Check in. If your listener is not following, convey the information again in shorter, clearer sentences.

Tips to Stay Healthy

With the change in weather comes the potential for colds, flu, and COVID! Everyone is encouraged to get their flu and COVID booster shots. Remember to sanitize regularly out in the community, especially if you are in the grocery store (the handles of the carts) and when you get back into the car. Comfort Keepers can help by doing your shopping for you, or if you get sick, we can help by just giving the care needed as you convalesce. Contact us today to set up a meeting and get a regular schedule in place for times like this. Let’s stay well this winter.

Take Care of Your Heart

Every year, more than 60,000 Canadians suffer a heart attack. A healthy diet and regular exercise can reduce the risk. If you have cardiovascular disease, follow your treatment carefully and take medicine as prescribed. Common signs of a heart attack include *chest pain; *discomfort or pain in the neck, jaw, shoulder, back, or arm; *shortness of breath; and *dizziness. If you are having a heart attack, call 911 immediately, follow operator instructions, stop all activity, stay calm, and rest in a comfortable position while waiting for help. Ask our pharmacist for more information about heart health.
