Q: I’m blind without my contact lenses. Do I really need to get glasses or should I just stock up on my contact lens supply? A: If you feel disabled without contact lenses, you ought to do both. There are times when you really need to wear glasses – to ensure the surface of your eye gets enough oxygen, or after an eye injury or eye infection. For optimum eye health, take time off from wearing the lenses and replace them often.

Considering A Chemical Peel?

Is your skin feeling dry and dull? Medical grade chemical peels form an integral part of achieving optimal skin health and appearance. Tailored to specific skin types and conditions, these treatments are designed to target hyper-pigmentation, aging, acne, and more. Peels also enhance the results of your home care regimens and other in-clinic procedures. Chemical peels can target discolouration, skin tone, radiance, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and pore congestion, without over-drying the skin. The result is an improvement in the appearance of the skin overall, leaving it smoother, glowing and a more even looking complexion.

Changing our Perception

We’ve been conditioned to be rewarded with unhealthy food. I am sure you’ve heard.. “If you finish your broccoli, you can have a piece of cake!” Food is there to nourish you. Not to be a burden, a stressor nor a reward for good behavior. After a week of hard work, you reward yourself with pizza and beer; nothing wrong with it occasionally if your body can process it, but you notice you are not feeling well afterwards. How was that a reward? What about rewarding yourself with a meal that nourishes your body and leaves you feeling good and energized. By changing our perception towards food, we can change our relationship with food.

“Fight or Flight’ to ‘Rest and Digest’

Massage therapy is undeniably effective at getting people tapped in to their parasympathetic nervous system, which is more commonly called ‘rest and digest’. Unfortunately, many spend most of their days in ‘fight or flight’! When the parasympathetic nervous system is in charge, blood pressure and heart rate lower, breathing is fuller, oxygen and blood make it deeper into the body, tissues repair themselves, organs do their jobs better, and overall, mental health is much more relaxed and content. It’s not hard to understand why being in ‘rest and digest’ is more conducive to recovery, management and being better prepared to handle what life throws at us!

The Sober Connection

Connection holds a remarkable power in our lives—especially in the relationships we nurture with ourselves, our community, and out in nature. Without connection, it’s easy to fall into the “half-life” I was stuck in, an existence haunted by ancestral pain and the constant playing out of old patterns.

Embrace a healthier lifestyle, feel empowered—not disheartened. Set a positive example for yourself and others around you, I want you to feel loved—not shunned.

Overcoming Challenges & Gaining Confidence

Many women avoid gym programs for their exercise routines because they are self-conscious. It’s normal to feel this way, especially at the start of a weight loss program. So first, give yourself a break. Then, give yourself a kick. The hardest part is showing up, so think about what might help you do that. Here are some tips: Mid-morning and mid-afternoon are likely to be less crowded than lunchtime or before or after work. Bring a friend! It’s easier to try something new when you have support. Also find comfort in knowing that many of the women you see in the gym are embarking on the same journey as you.

There’s No Place Like Home

Many seniors, whether they need short term or long-term care, prefer remaining in a place most familiar to them – their home. By removing elderly loved ones from their home we often take away years of memories, relationships with neighbors and communities which can lead to a decline in health and leave them feeling sad and isolated. If Mom or Dad is willing to explore the idea of home care, involve them in the process and remember to take it slow at first. Home is still the safest place to receive care!
