Though February is celebrated as a month of love, it can also be a time to examine unhelpful relationship patterns. To find a new pathway out of a relationship rut, you can: 1) Recognize that when you feel threatened, minimized, or judged, you might enter flight-fight-freeze-fidget mode, where you can’t explore another person’s viewpoint or possible solutions to the conflict; 2) Take a timeout by removing yourself from the situation and telling your partner why; and 3) Notice your emotions, rather than avoid them or push them away. Ask yourself: What is worrying you? What are you afraid will happen?
