Volunteer Drivers Needed!

Do you have your own vehicle, a clean driving record, a clear vulnerable sector criminal record check, and a flexible schedule? Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity that will allow you to spend time with older adults while supporting their health and well-being? The Golden Circle recognizes the need to provide transportation to older adults aged fifty and up (50+) in Red Deer, Red Deer County and surrounding rural communities who do not have other means of transportation. This service is provided by volunteer drivers using their vehicles. It is available to clients for medical appointments, escorted Grocery
Shopping, and attending programs at the Golden Circle to address social isolation. Supportive transportation is available
Monday through Friday between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm. To be registered for the supportive transportation program, individuals must first be assessed by an Outreach Coordinator. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer driver, please contact Kelly Thompson for more information at 403-343-6074. Email: kthompson@goldencircle.ca

Are You Iron Deficient?

Iron deficiency knows no boundaries – from women (it is estimated that up to 26% of reproductive aged women are iron deficient), to athletes, the elderly, and vegetarians – shortage of this mineral is widespread. Iron is an essential element for the body, and when it’s low, energy levels decrease. Other tell-tale symptoms include: weakness, pale skin, dark under-eye circles, brittle hair and nails, shortness of breath, and cold hands and feet. Think you may be deficient? Try a natural liquid iron supplement. It will help fight back against iron deficiency by promoting the formation of healthy red blood cells. Visit a LifeSmart clinic and talk to the Pharmacist about your options!

Lest We Forget

On Remembrance Day, we honour those who gave their lives so that we may be free. The Poppy is a powerful symbol of Remembrance. From the last Friday in October to Remembrance Day, millions of Canadians wear a Poppy as a visual pledge. We will be closed on November 11th in remembrance. Please go to www.goldencircle.ca for information on how we will honour those who fought for our freedom.
