Who’s in charge at home, you or your child’s behaviour? In the day-to-day, does your child pressure you to say yes, when you want to say no? Do you cave, just this once, for the sake of a great day? Children are often very clever at undermining our role as a parent; we need to be in the lead position. Avoid big explanations or defending your actions. Your calm resoluteness will lead them to act out less. Learning to hear and accept “no” is critical for your child to grow into a healthy, vibrant adult. Perhaps, try it out for one week.
