Music Therapist Qualifications

Music therapy is provided by music therapists, who must meet certain criteria. They must complete a Bachelor’s or a graduate certificate in music therapy. These include courses in music and psychology. They must complete a 1000-hour supervised, clinical internship. Upon successful completion of the internship, they must take an exam. After passing the exam, they apply for Music Therapist Accreditation (MTA certification). Music therapists must adhere to a standard of practice, a code of ethics, and must meet certain continuing education requirements. They must be a member in good standing with the Canadian Association of Music Therapists (CAMT).
